As I mentioned in my previous post, I have tons of layouts to post, so I think I will do it by season, theme, etc. otherwise I will get so confused I might give up. :-) So, without further ado, here are the layouts with a fall theme.

I Am Back -- Sorry I've Been MIA!

So sorry I have been MIA for months and months. Has it really been that long since I posted? Wow, time just flew so fast! :-(

Some new developments include the fact that I am no longer doing CT work. My health has been iffy and CT work requires having layouts ready within a certain amount of time and I was playing catch-up all the time. So I am still creating layouts and exploring more and more designers and styles and the fun aspect is back in full force. :-)

I have been doing layouts, but have neglected to post them here, so I will try to bring this blog up-to-date as quickly as I can. To begin with, here are some layouts I created last year.

How Time Has Gone By Down Memory Lane!

I cannot believe that it has been almost a month since I last posted, but I have been busy working. I have been mining (digging into) my mom's photo albums, looking for those good ole days memories and I found some gold -- well, at least for me they are gold. I have been busy scanning photos of her ... and my ... youth and what a trip down Memory Lane I have been on! Of course, more photos mean more scrap pages, so here are some of the layouts I have been cooking up in my computer. :-)

Ice Cream Parlor Mega Kit

Summer is here in earnest and the heat is mounting, and Groovy Scraps is scorching hot! Hot, Hot, Hot ... that's the operative word, and for me there is no better way to keep cool than staying indoors and doing some scrapping. :-)

And that is exactly what I did with the Ice Cream Parlor Mega Kit -- a fabulous collaboration by the talented designers at GS. The colors are soooo coooooool and cheerful, I was smiling the whole time I was working on this layout!

Abuelita's Ice Cream Parlor takes me back to my older son's first birthday,

when my grandma was still with us. It was so easy to create with so many papers

and elements to choose from in the GS Ice Cream Parlor Mega Kit!

Framed Daisies Freebie

I am a newbie at using PhotoShop Elements, but even at this stage I am having so much fun exploring and learning all the things that this fabulous program is capable of doing. I created a couple of frames which turned out quite good. I asked some friends -- who also happen to be expert designer -- to quality check them for me. I scanned some old photos of DH when he was around twenty-years-old and co-owned a sailboat with a friend from Junior High School. The friendship has endured through all the intervening years and is still going strong. :-)

A Magic Garden

Tomorrow I am going to have a tooth extracted, but here I am at 12:38 AM because I really needed to update my blog. It has been ages since I have posted, but I have been doing some scrapping, so I have lots of layouts to share with you.

To start with, I did a couple of layouts for MathildeScrap with her "Magic Garden" kit. It was so much fun creating the garden scene! Here are the layouts I created with Mathilde's gorgeous kit.

I finished my second layout for Kim Cameron's Fresh Rain kit. It was so much fun to play with because she provides such versatile papers and elements you can keep scrapping and always end up with something great. I extracted the girl's figure from a stock photo found on the Internet. :-)

I found inspiration in Kim's background paper with the cute umbrellas and a children's poem. I changed a couple of lines of the poem to better suit the action in the scene.

I had tons of fun working on it, although I must admit I did it on a day when my tooth was hurting, so the mood is a bit gloomy ... instead of a sunny spring day (as I portrayed in the layouts in my previous post) I decided to experiment with Kim's kit and layer more than one paper, changing the opacity of the one on top, and adding the ray of light to the lightning. I must say I was pleased with the results because her papers and elements helped me create this wet, moody, Stormy Day. :-)

Sunday in the Park With Friends -- NY Botanical Garden

So far, May has been a month marred by allergies and a pesky toothache, so it has not been fun at all! Good thing I have had some lovely memories to help me get through this painful time.

Last month, on April 11, we enjoyed a wonderful day at the NY Botanical Garden with my BF and her DH. As I mentioned in the journaling, it was one of those perfect days when everything came together in glorious harmony. I created some layouts to remember the day by.

One of the highlights of our day was the scrumptious picnic we enjoyed while lounging on a twig bench in a perfect spot that Melba found for us. I did a two-page layout chronicling the event.

I really do not encourage people to follow our example because, unless one is very meticulous about it, such an activity might be detrimental to the garden. We were extremely careful not to drop anything on the ground, and took all of our garbage with us, so we left the area as pristine as we found it, and I took a parting shot to prove it.:-)

Another highlight of our visit was The Orchid Show which this year featured Cuba in Flower. It was a gorgeous display of a wide variety of orchids in an array of colors and styles. Unfortunately, my camera failed me shortly after we entered the Conservatory, so I only was able to get some pictures of the first half of the show. Here is a layout I did of the display that greeted visitors upon entering.

The reflective pool was gorgeous, the photos

do not do justice to the beautiful array of greens and pinks.

The Botanical Garden is one of NYC's most beautiful jewels and we are so blessed to have such a showcase of God's natural creation in the midst of of a concrete jungle. That is one of the reasons why I created this little layout. :-)

I have been scrapbooking some layouts, among them one in particular using Groovy Scraps "I Think I Can Mega Kit." The kit has a railroad theme, but also includes lots of element that add versatility, so I can see I will be using it often. :-)

Spring is in the air!

Just when I was enjoying the cool spring weather,summer seems to be anxious to arrive with its warmer weather. The crocuses and daffodils, however, seem oblivious to the threat, so they are peeking through and soon will bloom in our courtyard. Around the city the flowering trees are in bloom, brightening the sunny days even more. I look around me, taking in all this beauty, which can only mean one thing -- allergy time! :-)

I guess that is one reason why I have not been scrapping garden scenes lately -- they bring to mind too many allergy symptoms! But I have been scrapping for the Groovy Scraps Challenges for the month of April. Thought you might like to take a look at my challenge entries.

I created "Glimpse of Liberty" for the Template Challenge at

Groovy Scraps. I used a template by Kerrie of KDesigns

and freebie styles from the Adobe.com site.

I am in the process of learning to use PhotoShop Elements 7. Some of the features I have been playing with lately are templates and styles. Glimpse of Liberty, Favorite Scriptures, and Island Hopper were all created this way, without a kit.

I really enjoyed doing this layout of my Favorite Scriptures.

I used "Template No. 5" by Jill Creation, "Night Styles" by

Tracy Drane, and freebie styles from the Adobe.com site.

The Scraplift Challenge was fun because we were inspired by Kerrie's original layout and then we made the design our own by the elements and paper we chose. I did a tribute to my mom.

I titled my tribute Working Mother in honor of the years my

mom worked as a secretary back in our country of origin.

To create the paper I used a grunge overlay from RA Studios.

The last challenge was to create an About Me layout. This was the most difficult one because I really do not enjoy sharing pictures of myself, except from when I was a little girl. But in the end it was a lot of fun because of the template and experimenting with the styles.

To create Island Hopper I used "Sketch 25" by SammyD Kreations.

This is the kit from KDesigns that participants will receive at the end of the month. The kit is divided into four parts, so the more challenges you do, the more papers and elements from the kit you receive. If you complete all four challenges you get the full kit. Drop by the Groovy Scraps forum and join in the fun!

Challenges are one of the fun ways to learn and grow as a scrapper. Our Pets

Continuing my trip down memory lane, I found photos of our beautiful pet parakeet, which in turn brought back memories of our veiltail goldfish. Unfortunately, I don't have photos of the goldfish, but I found some stock photos that bear an uncanny resemblance with our dear aquatic friends.

Just my luck, Groovy Scraps' monthly Mega Kit is titled "Our Pets," so it inspired me to do a two-page layout tribute to our feathered and scaled friends.

Team Work

Looking through my old pictures -- and I mean old -- I found some shots from our first apartment and our efforts to decorate it. Our friends came to help us and while the men worked I took some photos, and then hubby took some pictures of all of us once the job was done.

Back then my husband could have been called "The Decapitator" because of his tendency to cut off people's heads in the pictures he took. Normally one has to discard those, but thanks to Tracy Drane's terrific kits -- "Dirty Job 1" and "Dirty Job 2" -- I had so many elements to play with that I was able to use even the headless photo. Here is the two-page layout I created using the two kits.

One of our friends, Jack, passed on a few years ago, but the memory of his kind and generous heart lives on in our hearts and in our memories -- which is what scrapbooking is all about, preserving memories. :-)

Open Time Capsules

Scrapbooking layouts are like time capsules of our lives, they capture memories from a particular day, week, month, or year and preserve it for our enjoyment for years to come. Unlike time capsules, which are buried, to be discovered years later, layouts are meant to be kept on display and opened, as a constant record of those happy and sad times we have shared with our loved ones.

Looking at my albums and loose pictures I found some I just had to turn into time capsules, since they are very meaningful to my family. Among the old pictures is one of my in-laws' wedding back in Hungary. I love how beautiful/handsome they both look in her wedding dress and his military uniform. Many sad things happened to them in years to come, such as the separation and anguish of his spending 2 years in Russia as a POW when the Russian army invaded Hungary during WWII. But WWII also managed to bring a happy time for them, with the birth of Miklos, who would one day become my husband. :-)

Here we are on our wedding day. My wedding photos bring back so many happy memories of that day! It rained, which they say is a good sign, and it must be, because here we are 35 years later, still together and still in love! :-)

We got married in a really big city, but my ideal setting for a wedding would have been very different, so I created a fantasy layout for our wedding, in the middle of a forest. Talk about the difference between dreams and reality! :-)

Some years after the wedding our little family grew when we were blessed with our two boys, Christian and Jonathan. These are the photos that make me marvel at how fast time has flown by. Our two boys are grown men now and, as a mom, I feel nostalgic for the time when they were small and safely tucked in the nest.

My Layout Tributes

It's been a while since I last posted, but being quiet on the blog meant that I had more of a chance to scrap. Among other subjects, I managed to create some layouts dedicated to my mom and grandma. It was an emotional journey taking a look backwards and the results are these tributes to them for what they have meant in my life.

My mom came to the USA back in the early 60's, alone, to build a better life for us. I stayed behind with my grandma and joined her three years later. She is one of my heroines. The other one is my grandma.

My mom just turned 80, so I give thanks to God for the fact that she is still with us and she is very active and sprite. She had been dreading reaching the big 80, but on the day of her birthday she said that it was all a much ado about nothing because she does not feel any older than when she was 79. And as my layout expresses, "Mamá, You are as beautiful as ever!

Sorry I have been away for so long but life has a way of getting in the way of our hobbies. But the important thing is that I am back and ready to share some of my layouts with you.

Boy what a difference a month or two make! Back in August when I first posted I was still having trouble keeping the initials that are so prevalent in scrapbooking straight in my head, and here I am now part of the CT (Creative Team) at Groovy Scraps. It has been so much fun working with such a great group of talented designers and layout artists. Many of the kits that I have been working with have been created by them, so that is why their work is being featured here so prominently.

I mentioned last time that I have been taking a trip down Memory Lane. Well here are some layouts of really old photos that my mother has been treasuring for many, many years, and she finally let them out of her site for the few minutes it took to scan them. So far I have done four layouts of pictures of my childhood and I have titled them "Turn Around" -- it's one of my favorite songs, sung by Harry Belafonte, and tells the story of a dad whose little girl is growing up very fast.

My name is Nertha and Icreated this blog to share with you the newest extension of my main hobby -- which is creating rooms and landscaped scenes in 1:144 scale. I also love photography, so I love to take photos of my minis and decided to try digital scrapbooking. The plan was to create album pages of my miniatures that I could print out and assemble a portfolio.

As a result of a search for scrapbooking, I stumbled upon Groovy Scraps, where I was able to view their galleries and see all the wonderful designs that are being created digitally by digi artists and layout artists -- I was immediately hooked. This has gone beyond scrapbooking minis and now I have started to digitize my old photos -- something I had been wanting to do for a long time, but never got around to it.

Now that Groovy Scrap Galleries have provided me with a "roundtuit," I have started to scan my past into the present. I am finding it to be quite an emotional experience, with tons of memories flooding back in vivid detail. I am finding that scrapbooking is not just a hobby -- it is a journey!
